BlueCat Screenplay Competition Reader Feedback Analysis
Girl On Fire is a powerful story about a young girl discovering her power in the face of cruelty and oppression. Dayna, our young hero, cannot freely express femininity because her father wants a son to be his heir. By defying him, she is unknowingly targeted and kidnapped to be sold into prostitution. In this story, Dayna has done nothing wrong to deserve the treatment she's given -- her only crime was being born female. First, she's not allowed to present as a girl, then, when she does, she is persecuted. Her character in and of itself represents innocence and potential, pure childlike wonder. Her father, Mikola, is a dynamic character who learns from his mistakes and grows from his past trauma. It's understandable that he feels the way he does, after learning that he lost a son named Danylo. By the end of the story, he comes to realize that he needs to accept Dayna for who she is, and cherish her because he could lose her at any moment. He also decides to take in Angelina as his daughter, growing his family and caring for an orphan as if she were his own. Mikola is an incredibly sympathetic and heart-wrenching character, and it was very special to watch him develop throughout the story. This script has a lot of heart.

BlueCat Screenplay Competition Reader Feedback Analysis
GIRL ON FIRE has a bold and audacious spirit, harkening back to stark tales of survival and despair. Dayna is a protagonist who is empathetic and stuck in a dire situation that keeps the audience motivated because they care so much about her safety. That's a difficult thing to achieve. In terms of technical writing merit, this writer clearly understands screenplay format. While their voice shines brightly as subtly radical, it's also clear that the writer also understands story and how to keep a narrative moving, even when the script is wading through dark, murky, and violent waters. When mapping out Dayna's character arc, her narrative is comparable to Jennifer Lawrence in WINTER'S BONE, which is the sort of meaty, toothsome character that draws powerful acting talent and could even lead to the discovery of someone new and special.
